March, Tango, and Swing into Spring
Event Updates - New classes, styles, and more

MarchYou've heard the saying "Some people march to a different drummer"? I've always wondered, why march when you can dance?

As I'm typing this, March is just hours away; and with the temperamental springtime weather, it's the perfect time to get on the dance floor. Here's the scoop on bunches of dance opportunities for you, no matter your level. While the events below have just been added or have exciting updates to share, don't forget about the regulars: Historic Dance, Beginning Line Dance, Advanced Line Dance, and Exercises to Improve Balance. They happen every month, like clockwork.

Keep going to find a collection of Marches for March Playlist. You'll be surprised by the diversity and the fun to be found in a good march. (Never mind all that shade I threw above.)

Lucky Draw Dance Party
Saturday, March 9

It's time to dig out your lucky shoes and to show off your winning moves. Everyone is welcome at our dance parties - beginner or advanced, young or old, student or not - so come on out and join us for a great night of cool music, awesome people, and tasty snacks.

Level 2 West Coast Swing

Tuesdays, March 5-26, at 6pm ~ more details and registration

The Level 1 class in January/February was a wild success and they are coming back for more! Level 2 West Coast Swing is a 4-week group class intended for dancers who have already learned the basics of West Coast Swing, including right and left side pass, sugar push, and starter step. In Level 2 we expect to learn basic whip, a tuck turn or two, and some longer sequences. If this sounds like you, we'd love to have you join us!

Will there be a Level 3 in April? I hope so! Let us know if you're interested.

Friday Beginner Workshops in March will feature...

East Coast Swing

On Fridays March 8, March 15, and March 22 - Please register by noon that day

East Coast Swing is friendly, bouncy, and super fun. It's the dance for sock hops and swing kids. It's also a great starting point for learning more complicated Swings like Lindy Hop and Carolina Shag.

Friday Beginner Workshops offer a unique balance of flexibility and repetition that's perfect for the beginner dancer with a hectic schedule. Each is completely independent - you are welcome to join in at any time with absolutely no experience. Each week starts over from the beginning of the feature dance and then progresses to something different. If you attend all three weeks, you will see the basic 3 times but also learn something different each week to add to your collection.

The Deep Dive Style for March will be....

American Tango

Can you join the fun if you've never done a Deep Dive before? Yes, absolutely! But all Deep Dives have prerequisites. Usually the prereqs are fundamental moves in that dance style, or occasionally a foundation in a different dance style. Please check them carefully or talk to a Sapphire Instructor before attending. The prerequisites for the Deep Dive American Tango Workshops in February are a solid understanding of Level 1 and 2 Tango, including dancing in multiple dance positions, to various rhythms, at moderate speeds. More details, including prerequisites, are available at SapphireDance.com/GroupLessons.php.

For more information on Deep Dives in general, Check out this newsletter article (http://SapphireDance.com/Email/2023/2023-11-B.html) from last year, when we first announced this addition to our programs.

March 4, April 1, and May 6 will feature Advanced Line Dance at 7:00pm and Exercises to Improve Balance at 8:00pm. April 29 is reserved for staff development - there will be no public workshops that Monday.

Marches for March Playlist

The pun was too good to pass, so here's a playlist of songs that all have a march-ish feel. Marches have a strong, regular beat, usually without much syncopation or extra fanciness. I think you'll hear it in all of these songs.

To view the complete playlist, visit us on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/SapphireBallroom/playlists
These playlists are always changing. If you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear it! Send me a link at info@sapphiredance.com.

Sapphire's group classes and workshops are always small, low stress, and fun. They are a great way to meet other people who have also decided to learn to dance, as well as get to know our teaching staff. It doesn't take any long-term investment to get started, no special clothing or shoes - just something comfortable to wear and a sense of adventure. So, take the plunge and try it out.

All classes (in person or online) require registration by noon the day the class starts. We are happy to add late-comers if we can, but classes may be cancelled or rescheduled if registration is low.

Four ways to register, just choose one and we'll take care of the rest:
1 - reply to this email info@sapphiredance.com;
2 - register and pay at the same time at our online store at SapphireBallroom.square.site;
3 - talk to your favorite Sapphire Staff member;
4 - give us a ring at 540-382-8782.

Thanks for reading; we hope you found something you liked. Until we see you again, happy dancing!
